Is Kefir only a drink? What else can I make with Kefir?

Wallaby Organic Lowfat Kefir lends itself quite easily to smoothie recipes. Below is one of our favorite blogger's recent posts that include Kefir-based Smoothie recipes.

Do you have a shake or smoothie recipe you would like to share? Please post on Facebook and Twitter.

Don't limit your culinary concoctions to smoothies though! Wallaby Lowfat Kefir can be a wonderful addition to baked goods recipes, and substitutes well for portions of sour cream, buttermilk, or almost any other dairy-based liquid. We recommend that you begin by replacing ½ of the recipe's requirements for one of these products. For example, if your recipe calls for 2/3 cup of buttermilk, reduce that amount to 1/3 cup, and then add 1/3 cup of Plain Lowfat Kefir. With more experimenting, you can make further adjustments.

Recently, we tried Kefir Waffles - a tasty breakfast treat!

Kefir is a healthy drink for kids, teens, adults and seniors, with plenty of calcium (25% DRI per 1 cup serving) and 12 Live and Active Cultures to keep your digestive system in check. Our new Wallaby Organic Kefir, available in plain, vanilla, strawberry, and blueberry, is flying off the shelves. Get your bottle today, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Where did the name Kefir come from?

Kefir has been consumed for more than 2000 years. It originated in Europe, supposedly in the Caucasus Mountains. People there drank it for health and longevity, and many lived past 100 years. The name means "long life" or "good life" and is purported to have come from the Turkish word "Keif", which means "good feeling." Yes, we agree – the delicious taste and health benefits of our Wallaby Organic Lowfat Kefir make us feel great from the inside out! And, you can feel even better knowing that, as with all of our Wallaby products, our Kefir is USDA certified organic, gluten-free, and made with milk from local farms.

Why haven't I heard of Kefir before?

Wallaby Yogurt Company strives to create products that our consumers desire, sometimes fulfilling a need they did not even know they had! Today, kefir is widely consumed throughout Eastern and Central Europe, where the drink is associated with improving one's general health and well-being. It can be enjoyed by anyone, from age 2 to 102. While kefir has been around for years, it has just recently been gaining popularity in the U.S. Whether you tried kefir years ago, drink it regularly, or have never even heard of it, we believe our Wallaby Lowfat Organic Kefir is definitely worth a try!

All About Kefir

What it is and why you should be drinking it

All About Kefir

We recently launched our new Wallaby Organic Lowfat Kefir, and it has been flying off the shelves! Don't know what Kefir is?  You're not alone! Our next few blogs will uncover the mysteries behind this delicious beverage as we answer your questions about its taste, health benefits, and use in recipes.

Is Kefir like yogurt in a bottle?

Well, yes and no. Kefir is a probiotic milk beverage (yup, you can drink it!) that contains a variety of live and active cultures. As with all Wallaby products, our Organic Lowfat Kefir is made with organic milk from local, pasture-based family farms, and has the signature mild, creamy taste that our consumers love. It has received rave reviews from many of our fans, and non-yogurt eaters are enjoying our Kefir too! They favor its unique flavor and ease of transport and enjoyment – with a spoon or without!
